Research Project: Realizing Increased Photosynthetic Efficiency (RIPE)

Ryan Boyd is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Illinois. His research focuses on the conservation of water by promoting photosynthesis in the humid lower canopy. For the Ort Lab, he measures and seeks to improve light penetration through crop canopies. Ryan earned his bachelor’s degree in integrative biology from the University of Illinois. He then went on to earn his doctorate degree in molecular plant science from Washington State University. His work is published in Plant Physiology.

The Ort Lab is supported by many public and private partnerships, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research, the UK Government's Department for International Development, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy.
