Research Project: Realizing Increased Photosynthetic Efficiency

Jessica Fowler is a research technician in the lab of Don Ort. Her work focuses on improving the regulation of Rubisco activity. For the RIPE project, Jessica is bringing her background in ecology and geographic information systems to help postdoctoral researchers increase the efficiency of crop growth by improving photosynthesis. Jessica received her bachelor’s degree in environmental science at Point Loma Nazarene University and later earned her master’s degree in biology from Illinois State University.

The Ort Lab is supported by many public and private partnerships, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research, the UK Government's Department for International Development, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy.
